Ensembles at Middleton High School

 

JAZZ ENSEMBLE II A-B  (0836 AND 0837)

Year:  2 credits                                                                                                                                                 
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
Requirements –Students must be currently enrolled in either: Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Winds, Percussion Ensemble, and under certain circumstances Orchestra. 

NO EXPERIENCE IN JAZZ NECESSARY. This course is to introduce students with the style of jazz music.  During the semester students will participate with the major brass, woodwind, double bass, and percussion instruments.  Members will study and perform different forms of music from jazz, funk, and blues.  Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course.

 

JAZZ ENSEMBLE  I   (0812) A = FALL     (0813) B = SPRING

Year: 2 credits       
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12                                                                                                                            
Requirements – Director’s signature on registration or selected from SPRING auditions. Students must be currently enrolled in Marching Winds/Concert Band or Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble or under certain circumstances; Orchestra. 

This course will challenge and excite students with the style of jazz music.  During the semester, students will participate with full jazz instrumentation utilizing the major brass, woodwind, double bass, piano and percussion instruments.  Members will study and perform different forms of music, which includes jazz, funk, and the blues. Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course.

 

MARCHING CORPS  (0814) FALL 

Fall Semester: 1 credit  (P.E. or Elective)                                                                                                                                      
Grade Level :9, 10, 11, 12
Requirements – Tuesday rehearsals (6:30pm - 8:30pm), and a 5-Day August Marching Camp BEFORE school starts. Students must be currently enrolled in Marching Winds, Percussion Ensemble, unless an Auxiliary/Guard member.   

THIS WILL BE A ZERO HOUR CLASS 

This class will prepare students to perform as the Middleton Marching Corps. The August Marching/Percussion/Guard Camps, and Tuesday-Night rehearsals (6:30pm to 8:30pm) are a required part of the curriculum in order to prepare shows for our numerous performances. All rehearsals, performances, and camps are graded on participation.  There are required uniform purchases and rentals that are essential to an excellent performance. Information will be given to students during Marching Camp as to what is expected. We do many fundraisers throughout the year, and are more than willing to work with families suffering hardships. Two complete semesters of Marching Corps will fulfill the MHS P.E. credit needed for graduation. Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course.
 

MARCHING WINDS   (0810)  FALL

Fall Semester: 1 credit                                                                                                                                        
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
Requirements – Students must be currently enrolled in Marching Corps. Auxiliary/Guard Members are encouraged to join this class if they double as an instrumentalist.

This course is open to all students who can or want to play a brass, or woodwind instrument.  This course prepares students for our marching season and entering the Wind Ensemble.  This performance-based class will include Marching Corps, Concert Band, Pep Band and Parade music.  The group is required to perform throughout the year for community activities (Examples: Middle School Band Concert, 4th of July Parade, and the Christmas Parade), for school functions (Example: Football games, Pep assemblies, and Basketball Games), and Program Performances (Example: Marching Camp BBQ, Field-Show performances, Awards Ceremony, and the Winter Concert.Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course.

 

WIND ENSEMBLE  (0842) SPRING

Spring Semester: 1 credit                                                                                                                         
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
Requirements – Director’s signature on registration or selected from FALL auditions.  

Wind Ensemble consists of more advanced instrumentalists. Wind Ensemble is open to all students who want to play a brass, or woodwind instrument.  This performance-based class will include; Concert, Pep and Parade music.  The group is required to perform throughout the year for community activities (Examples: Middle School Band Concert, 4th of July Parade, and the Christmas Parade), for school functions (Example: Football games, Pep assemblies, and Basketball Games), and Program Performances (Examples: BSU Band Clinic, DIII Large Group Festival, and the Spring Awards Concert). Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course.

 

PERCUSSION   (0815)  FALL       

Fall Semester: 1 credit                                                                                                                                 
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
Requirements – Students must be currently enrolled in Marching Corps. Auxiliary/ Guard Members are encouraged to join this class if they double as a percussionist. Tuesday-Night rehearsals (6:30pm - 8:30pm), and an 8-Day August Percussion/Marching Camp held BEFORE school starts.  

Percussion is open to all students who want to play all of the Percussion instruments. This group prepares students for our marching season and for entering the percussion ensemble.  This performance-based class will include Marching Corps, Percussion Ensemble, Concert, Pep and Parade music.  The group is required to perform throughout the year for community activities (Examples: Middle School Band Concert, 4th of July Parade, and the Christmas Parade), for school functions (Example: Football games, Pep assemblies, and Basketball Games), and Program Performances (Example: Marching Camp BBQ, Field-Show performances, Awards Ceremony, and the Winter Concert. Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course.

 

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE   (0816) SPRING

Fall Semester:1 credit  
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12                                                                                                                     
Requirements – Must play or want to play all of the Percussion instruments. No ability is necessary

Percussion Ensemble is open to all students who want to play all of the Percussion instruments.  This group prepares students for our Percussion Ensemble, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble performances.  This performance-based class will include; Wind Ensemble preparation, Concert Band preparation, Pep Band and Parade music.  The group is required to perform throughout the year for community activities (Examples: Middle School Band Concert, 4th of July Parade, and the Christmas Parade), for school functions (Example: Football games, Pep assemblies, and Basketball Games), and Program Performances (Example: Marching Camp BBQ, Field-Show performances, Awards Ceremony, and the Winter Concert. Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course

 

CONCERT BAND  (0811)  SPRING

Spring Semester: 1 credit
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12                                                                                                                   

Requirements – Must play or want to play a major brass, woodwind, or double reed instrument. No ability is necessary.  

Concert Band consists of more entry level musicians. Concert Band is open to all students in grades 9 through 12 who want to play a brass or woodwind instruments.  This group prepares band students for our marching season and for entering the wind ensemble.  This performance-based class will include; Concert, Pep and Parade music.  The group is required to perform throughout the year for community activities (Examples: Middle School Band Concert, 4th of July Parade, and the Christmas Parade), for school functions (Example: Football games, Pep assemblies, and Basketball Games), and Program Performances (Examples: BSU Band Clinic, DIII Large Group Festival, and the Spring Awards Concert). Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course. 

 

ORCHESTRA  A-B  (0817 AND 0818) 

Year: 2 credits                                                                                                                                                  
Grade Level:  9, 10, 11, 12
Requirements - Must play or want to play a string instrument; Violin, Viola, Cello, or Double Bass. No ability is necessary. Students wishing to play a string instrument will be instructed on various instruments such as violin, viola, cello and string or double bass.  Fundamentals and daily drill will occur while rehearsing for performances. Public and outside of school day performances are a requirement of the course.
